PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: De Beers Technologies (SA) supports and improves the upstream operations of the De Beers Group by the conception, research, design and supply of diamond industry specific technology. Many of these technology solutions are controlled and monitored by systems that require programming using various software platforms.

The role of the software engineer on a project is to understand the requirements of the various subsystems and to generate the software needed to drive and control those subsystems so that they can ultimately contribute to the overall performance of the product. The Software Engineer conceptualises, designs, implements and supports software engineering solutions to satisfy the requirements of technology development and business improvement projects for De Beers Technologies SA (DBTech SA). Please refer to the attached job description for further information: DBGS Advert – Software Engineer May 2017 Final.docx WORK OF THE ROLE: Execute delivery of software engineering solutions in an integrated project environment, collaborating with other technical specialists and provides an advisory authority to Electronic Software RD Manager. Is responsible for: The successful delivery of allocated software engineering tasks.

Effective communication and co-operation with colleagues. Excellent client feedback. Continual business improvement initiatives. PERSON REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Electronic or Software Engineering.

Experience: Minimum of two years software programming in a technology development environment would be advantageous. Experience in the design, development, commissioning and interfacing of embedded control systems e.g. cRIO, PXI and PC based platforms would be advantageous. Application/Energy: High degree of self-motivation, energy, ownership and proactivity.

Resilient and tenacious, with a propensity to persevere Knowledge and Technical Skills specific to the role: Advanced knowledge of software engineering concepts, practices and procedures. Analytic and mathematical skills appropriate to the role. Text based programming ability in a Microsoft environment. Knowledge of the National Instruments LabVIEW graphical programming environment.

Basic understanding of RD processes. Organising, planning, and monitoring in a dynamic RD environment. Hands on, practical mind-set and ability. Questioning and improvement driven mindset with an ability to work independently.

Social Processing Skills: Attention to detail. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to and communicate with senior and junior employees. Ability to effectively build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders including colleagues, managers, senior business and technical leaders and suppliers. Co-operation, communication and collaboration skills that promote effective teamwork.

Ability to effectively manage multiple and at times competing priorities. Ability to work across disciplines and in collaboration with colleagues in/from other business areas.
