QA Specialist – Safair Operations

A vacancy exists for the position of QA Specialist (Technical) at Safair Operations. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Compliance.
The candidate must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally. Will be required to work in the evenings as most maintenance in the product is done after hours.

Safair Operations (Pty) Ltd , is an aviation company based at OR Tambo International Airport, South Africa. Safair has been in business since 1965 and we are affiliated to the ASL Aviation group based in Dublin, Ireland.

Safair specialises in Aircraft Chartering and Aircraft Wet Leases. Our footprint is worldwide and we have operated on all 7 continents.

Some of our customers include NGO’s, United Nations, WFP, ICRC, Italian Antarctica expedition and various Government entities. Safair also has a low cost airline – FlySafair which operates domestically within South Africa with B737-400 and B737-800 type aircraft.

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the maintenance quality assurance programme is properly established, implemented and maintained.

This opening requires a person to be an independent thinker and a person who will take the initiative. The person must be willing to teach and share their experience with other team members.

A clear criminal record is essential for access to the ramp “ACSA requirements”. The individual must have worked in Quality or have interest in Quality. Must have product knowledge of aircrafts operated by Safair.


  • Grade 12
  • Certificate or diploma in Quality Management
  • Completed the SACAA CAR’s and CAT’s training programme
  • Hold a SACAA recognized AME or equivalent
  • Safety Management System training experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience in implementation and maintenance of quality management systems.


  • Perform inspections on aircrafts (operating and in maintenance)
  • Perform inspections on aircraft parts and equipment used for aircraft maintenance including engines, props and APU’s
  • Prepare aircrafts for C of A inspections as a project manager
  • Conduct quality audits on Safair aircrafts and facilities, including line stations
  • Conduct quality audits on Safair maintenance service providers
  • Oversight on Safair aircraft, domestically and international
  • Perform investigations on defective parts removed from aircrafts or received from vendors
  • Assist in writing of procedures relating quality within the organization
  • Evaluate problems and make recommendations
  • Periodic dissemination of quality related information to maintenance, planning and engineering staff
  • Enforcement of SMS, SEMS and QMS within the technical environment
  • Compile reports on QA and QC activities
  • Control of equipment used for the support of maintenance
  • Ensure that regulatory changes relating to product quality are researched and implemented
  • The monitoring of compliance with, and the adequacy of, the procedures required to ensure safe maintenance practices and airworthy aircraft
  • The monitoring of activity in flight operations, maintenance, training and ground operations, to ensure that the standards required by the CAA, and any additional requirements defined by the operator, are being met; and
  • Maintain currency in CAR/CAT regulation, and ensure that these issues are planned for, implemented and finalized. Motivate staff to be compliant and Quality aware at all times
  • Write complete and accurate technical reports, audit finding, CAP’s, etc.
  • Any additional tasks that may be assigned with respect to the financial and non-operational efficiency aspects of the company.

At least 5 years’ experience in implementation and maintenance of quality management systems.
