Operations Manager – Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd


Main purpose of the job
To manage production, supply and sales/marketing activities for innovative medical diagnostic quality verification and assurance products developed. This will suit an entrepreneurial, resourceful and creative self-starter in an exciting and rapidly growing and important medical diagnostics environment.

Location
Parktown, Johannesburg

Key performance areas
Perform direct sales, marketing and negotiating pricing and supply contracts with key customers, including multinational diagnostics and pharmaceutical companies, government ministries and health departments and aid agencies as well as future suppliers (thereby also encompassing business development activities).
Working with an internationally recognised academic and state sector based multidisciplinary research team to co-ordinate product production and supply with different contributing partners/providers, forecast product supply requirements, and communicate directly with product end users providing technical service support.
Co-ordination of orders and stock supply (locally, regionally and globally).
Perform duties of sales and marketing (including key account management) of medical diagnostic products (including molecular diagnostic products) to public and private sector laboratories in South Africa.
Working knowledge of requirements for laboratory quality control and assurance including Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), SANAS ISO17025 and others.
Dealing with TB diagnosis and TB drug resistance testing methods and requirements/limitations (and for any other infectious diseases).
Ability to work in vaccine product production environment.
Able to work in an accredited clinical diagnostic/pathology laboratory in the private and/or state sector as well as knowledge of diagnostics method for TB (and other infectious diseases including HIV, HPV advantageous).


Required minimum education and training
M Tech or BSc (Hons) MSc with research or product development production experience preferred
Some formal sales/negotiations skills training
Some formal business management or operations Management trainings

Required minimum work experience
5 10 years working experience

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
International diagnostics market experience is an advantage especially in dealing with sale and supply of diagnostic products to National Health Departments or Ministries of health in Africa and/or Asia.
Knowledge of CAP, NEQAS, NRL, QCMD and other laboratory quality control and assurance systems.
Background or experience in vaccine product production environment is an added advantage.
Ability to travel internationally into African and Asian markets is essential.
